Wesson woman wins lottery twice in 24 hours

WESSON — The Mississippi Lottery Corporation reported a Wesson woman won the lottery twice in 24 hours. Shakwonita of Wesson won $5,000 on a Cash 4 ticket bought from the Raja Food Mart in Hazlehurst on Sept. 9, 2024

At MLC’s headquarters in Flowood, she won $800 on a Match 5 ticket on Sept. 10, 2024.

She was not the only big winner from around these parts. A woman from Union Church won $5,000 on a $1 scratch-off ticket bought at a Sprint Mart in Natchez on Sept. 5. The same day, a Wesson player won $1,350 from a Cash 4 Ticket bought at the 3way Kwik Stop in Brookhaven. A Brookhaven woman also won $800 from a Mega Millions ticket bought at Tobacco Mart in Brookhaven.

Funds transfer update

The Mississippi Lottery Corporation today completed its August transfer of $9,632,767.62 in net proceeds to the Lottery Proceeds Fund in the Mississippi State Treasury.

In accordance with the Alyce G. Clarke Lottery Law, the MLC is required to transfer net proceeds within 20 days following the close of each calendar month. The first $80 million goes to Mississippi Department of Transportation projects; proceeds exceeding $80 million are earmarked for the Education Enhancement Fund.

The Mississippi Lottery has transferred more than $18.5 million to the state for Fiscal year 2025, which began July 1, 2024. Since sales began in November 2019, the Mississippi Lottery has transferred more than $409.2 million to the state for roads and bridges, plus more than $188 million for the Education Enhancement Fund.
