Daylight shows soggy ground, windy conditions persist

BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County residents woke up Thursday morning to sunshine, soggy ground and still gusty winds. Francine weakened to a tropical depression and is now moving north of Lincoln County.
Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Reid said there was no damage to report other than a few trees and limbs down across the county.
Mississippi Highway Patrol worked one wreck Wednesday afternoon hours before any significant rainfall and wind made it to Lincoln County.
Around 600 customers are without power at this time in Lincoln County. Southwest reports 309 customers are without power, Magnolia Electric reports 115 customers are without power and Entergy reports 176 customers are without power.
Forecasted tracks of the storm shifted east gradually Wednesday and eventually moved far enough east the cone of tropical force conditions missed much of Lincoln County entirely.
National Weather Service in Jackson reports 1.86 inches of rain fell in the past 24 hours. McComb’s weather station is still picking up wind gusts in excess of 20 mph. Peak gusts last night reached 31 mph according to the McComb weather station.
District 3 Supervisor John David Hart said the only call they received this morning was for a car versus tree on Hog Chain around 4 a.m. The driver had no injuries and was able to drive his car away from the scene, Hart said.
