BROOKHAVEN — The Lincoln County Grand Jury released a report for July’s proceedings at the Lincoln County Courthouse back in August. The jury heard testimony from 28 witnesses and returned 19 true bills of indictments.
The grand jury refused to indict seven cases and are continuing five cases for further investigation. One case was remanded to the Lincoln County Justice Court and another was remanded to Brookhaven’s Municipal Court.
Grand jury members also toured the Lincoln County Jail and found the facility to “be well maintained and staffed. All areas were clean and well lit. Jail personnel seemed well instructed in their duties and courteous. We found the prisoner to be well secured and humanely treated.”
Lincoln County Administrator reported the county’s finances to the grand jury. In the final report for July, the Grand Jury wrote it found the county in sound financial condition.
