ENTERPRISE — St. Andrews first and only touchdown came in the dying seconds of a 44-7 Enterprise win Friday night. From the start, Enterprise executed its gameplan and stomped on the young, inexperienced St. Andrews team.
Head Coach Trey Woodard tried to keep his guys in check after the game giving them context to the impressive win. Enterprise has 14 seniors and played like a team with 14 seniors. They out pushed, out ran, out hustled, out hit and outplayed en route to a victory.
Landon McNickles opened the scoring on the first drive scoring on a 63 yard rush just two minutes into the game. Enterprise ran rampant on the St. Andrews defense as the offensive line won the war in the trenches. Senior center Eli Fuller led the charge.
“We executed our game plan and we did it right. That is what we came here to do. We came here and did it right,” Fuller said. “We worked in the rain this week and we got used to it. We believe if we work hard and stay dominant we will win.”
McNickles scored again on a five yard rush to give Enterprise a 13-0 lead with 4:37 in the first quarter. McNickles would score again on a 25 yard touchdown rush.
Michael Magee intercepted a pass and returned it 20 yards to start the second quarter. St. Andrews forced a turnover on downs to stop the Yellow Jackets from scoring in the red zone. Payton Kyzar made an interception shortly after and McNickles scored again, this time on a 15 yard touchdown rush. ENterprise led 25-0 with 8:56 in the second quarter.
Jonathan McNickles got the ball for Enterprise again when he made an interception and stopped a marching St. Andrews team. Ayden Arevalo scord next on a 12 yard run to give Enterprise a 31-0 lead over St. Andrews with 4:36 left in the second quarter.
Kyzar scored again right before halftime on a five yard rush. Enterprise led 37-0 over St. Andrews going into half. Marcquez Yarbrough scored the final touchdown for Enterprise on a 50 yard interception return. His score put Enterprise up 44-0 and the Yellow Jackets subbed in their younger players as the clock ran.
Fuller said being a senior makes him want to work 10 times harder. Enterprise has a team full of 14 highly motivated and experienced seniors.
“We have started since ninth grade and we worked hard to get where we are today,” Fuller said. “Starting 2-0 at home feels great. Hard work, dedication and working on what coach tells us to do has led us.”
Woodard challenged his team to go back to work Monday and try to take the coming week day by day. Enterprise will play cross-county rival Bogue Chitto who is 1-1 to start the season. It is the shortest drive between two Lincoln County schools.
The game may be a little personal for Fuller. He said he played junior high football at Bogue Chitto before moving back to Enterprise.
“It wasn’t right. I had to come home. It felt good to play decently against them in the jamboree,” Fuller said. “We know we can beat them.”
