BROOKHAVEN — A Lincoln County man will make his next appearance in the Eastern District of Louisiana Court next month. Daniel Callihan was arrested back in June for the murder of a Louisiana woman, a four-year-old girl and the kidnapping of a six-year-old girl.
Callihan was indicted by a Tangipahoa Parish grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated kidnapping of a child and second-degree kidnapping. His accomplice Victoria Cox was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping of a child and second degree kidnapping.
He faces federal kidnapping charges and charges of transporting with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity according to court documents. The complaint filed alleges Callihan kidnapped the two children in Loranger, Louisiana and took them to Jackson.
License plate readers and surveillance footage obtained from the McDonalds in McComb show the vehicle used by Callihan to travel from Loranger to Jackson. Video and witnesses attest to the girls being with Callihan.
Upon his arrest, Callihan confessed to the murder of Callie Brunett, the mom, and her four-year-old daughter, the theft of Brunett’s vehicle, cell phone and his intent to “keep the living minor child as his sex slave,” according to the document which further appears to describe an apparent sexual assault against the living child.
He faces capital murder and sexual battery charges in Mississippi.
Callihan will be back in the Eastern District of Louisiana Court on Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. court documents show. A joint motion to continue preliminary hearings was granted on Aug. 7.
