BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to sign a contract with Waste Management for garbage collection in a docket meeting Wednesday. The action solidified a transition from Arrow Disposal Services Inc. to Waste Management at the end of September.
ADSI’s contract with Lincoln County expires on Sept. 30, 2024. Waste Management’s contract begins Oct. 1, 2024 although the company will start garbage collection on Sept. 30 if needed. Lincoln County awarded Waste Management the contract in July 2024.
Lincoln County Board Attorney Greg Malta brought up some concerns he had about the contract last week. One of those concerns being the contract documents were just the bid proposal and not an actual contract.
“They addressed all of my concerns. It reduced the contract to one document. I’m more comfortable with it,” Malta said. “It is only a total of 12 pages. I ask you to read over it. Make sure you are comfortable.”
Malta told the board the contract did ask the county to designate a point of contact for the company to report to and contact. Lincoln County Administrator Daniel Calcote was nominated by the board to be the point of contract.
One question answered by the final version of the contract was who would bill for a second garbage can. Calcote explained Waste Management would bill customers directly for a second trash can. The second trash can must also be one from Waste Management.
Calcote said at this time there is no planned fee increase for Lincoln County residents living outside of city limits.
