Dangerous heat returns, tropical cyclone develops

BROOKHAVEN — Do not be fooled by the false fall mornings. The National Weather Service warns of dangerous heat stress conditions Monday into the rest of this week.
Temperatures will reach a high of at least 97 degrees until next Sunday. Today’s high temperature could reach 99 degrees with a heat index of 101. Winds will be out of the east at 5 mph. Amidst the increasing heat Monday, citizens should stay hydrated, stay cool, avoid strenuous activities outside and take frequent breaks if working outdoors.
Heat exhaustion could become more likely with the conditions forecast for the rest of the week. NWS Jackson warns temperatures will be near 100 degrees with heat indices between 105 and 110 for Lincoln County and southwest Mississippi.
Tuesday’s high will be around 98 degrees with a heat index of 104. The chance of precipitation tomorrow is 20 percent.
Wednesday and Thursday’s high will reach 99 degrees. Friday’s high will cool off to 97 degrees. Saturday will bump up to 98 degrees and Sunday’s high will drop to 97 degrees again.
Hurricane season
National Hurricane Center in Miami warns of a potential Tropical Cyclone Five developing in the Caribbean Sea. The storm could become a tropical storm in the leeward islands. The good news, the storm is forecast to turn to the northeast into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean away from the US coastline.
