Brookhaven native Tex Sample will have his name placed on the Wall of Freedom in Kansas City, Missouri.

Sample will be honored by the black community on Aug. 24 at the “Monument to Freedom, Justice, and Courage Honoree Celebration” in Leon Jordan Memorial Park. The monument was constructed to highlight those whose work significantly impacts the African-American community in Jackson County, Missouri.

Sample was also recently named a Lifetime Trustee at Saint Paul School of Theology, where he taught 32 years on the faculty, and served seven years on the Board of Trustees, three as chairperson.
