BROOKHAVEN — Forecasts of triple digit temperatures Wednesday were down graded Wednesday by noon. The National Weather Service has since forecast high temperatures to reach a max of 99 degrees.
Neither the 99 degrees or forecasted highs of 101 reported yesterday would be enough to break or tie Brookhaven record for August 7 set in 1930 at 103 degrees. NWS Jackson has a separate record temperature for the Jackson area of 102 degrees set Aug. 7, 1947.
Despite the heat not breaking any records, the NWS warns conditions are still dangerous and could cause heat stress. A heat advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. today.
Heat and sunny skies are forecast to persist into next week. Monday and Tuesday both have a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Long term outlook
At this time, Lincoln County is forecast to not have any drought conditions develop in the next month or season heading into the fall. At the same time, tropical cyclone activity may start to pickup in the Atlantic Ocean over the next two weeks.
