MCCOMB — Percy Quin State Park is expansive. The lake is 490 acres large with excellent fishing opportunities. Fishing piers and marinas are also on the lake.

Quail Hollow Golf Course is located inside the state park and is one of the first attractions visitors see. The state park has 122 newly renovated RV campground sites. There are also 50 primitive camping sites and 27 cabins spread out across the state park.

MDWFP Chief of Wildlife Staff Russ Walsh grew up in Pike County and has plenty of memories of Percy Quin State Park. He gave a tour of the state park along with Fisheries Chief of Staff Jerry Brown, Southwest Mississippi Wildlife Management Area Biologist Josh Moree and MDWFP Director of Governmental Affairs Michelle Carter.

Across the lake from the campgrounds, Camp Sunshine’s cabins are tucked away in trees along with an archery range. Walsh explained Camp Sunshine has been a staple to the community for the past 50 years serving campers with disabilities. Visitors to that area may notice a memorial bench dedicated to Susan Haskins who spent many summers with Camp Sunshine serving as a counselor. Haskins died at the age of 20 in a tragic car wreck in 2009.

The newly renovated cabins are modern, comfortable and enhance the experience at Percy Quin State Park. Walsh explained one of the cabins had a wall removed to open the floor plan.
