Teenage shooting suspect turns himself in

BROOKHAVEN — Teenage suspect LaDamian Dewanqez White of Brookhaven turned himself in to Brookhaven Police Department around 5 p.m. Friday. White shot and severely injured two females in an incident Wednesay.

Brookhaven Police Department Detective Tim Sanders said White is charged with five counts of aggravated assault, one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle, one count of juvenile with possession of a firearm in commission of a crime, one count of animal cruelty. Sanders said the cruelty charge comes from the death of a dog in the shooting.

White’s bond is set at $280,000. Brookhaven Police Chief Kenny Collins thanked the public for their assistance in the case.

The shooting

Collins issued a press release about the shooting Thursday. Officers responded to a shots fired call at 8:30 p.m Wednesday on Ozark Lane. A crime scene was established and secured. 

While officers were on scene, Central Dispatch advised police about a call from KDMC regarding gunshot wound victims and a vehicle struck by numerous rounds. 

“Two female victims were struck by numerous rounds. One female victim was struck by several rounds and treated for her injuries,” Collins said in a release. “Another female was also struck by multiple rounds and taken to UMMC in Jackson from KDMC.” 

The female at UMMC is in critical condition and awaiting surgery for her injuries, Brookhaven Police Department reported. 

Juvenile suspect LaDamian Dewanqez White, of Brookhaven, is the primary suspect in the shooting. White is facing numerous felony charges in the incident according to Brookhaven Police Department.

“White is considered armed and dangerous to the public,” Collins said in a release. “We are requesting family members or friends to turn himself in. Additional charges will be filed to whomever assists this suspect juvenile during this process. My heart and sympathy go out to the victims and their family in this senseless act of violence.” 

Officials do not believe this shooting is connected to any other crimes.

The shooting is the sixth one in Lincoln County since Jan. 1, 2024.
