Police will implement new policy at events

BROOKHAVEN — A new policy for events worked by Brookhaven Police Department will prohibit masks, hoods and backpacks. Brookhaven Police Chief Kenny Collins called The Daily Leader to inform citizens about the new policy.

The policy is similar to a clear bag policy implemented by Brookhaven School District last year. Three men, aged 19-20, were arrested last August after trying to bring weapons into a football game, they had masks on and backpacks.

Collins said people will not be able to enter an event the department is working if the person has a mask on, is wearing a backpack outside of the clear bag policy or wearing a hoodie. The person will be turned away after their identity if found out.

“From this day forward, none of our events. Baseball, football, any event we are working, it doesn’t matter. You will not be allowed to enter if you are masked up, wearing a backpack or have a hoodie up,” Collins said.
