Burglary, murder suspect rebooked, not rearrested

Burglary and capital murder suspect Justin Anderson was recently reported to have been arrested again for burglary of an occupied dwelling in Lincoln County.

The booking, however, was simply transferring Anderson back into Lincoln County Jail after having been in Lee County Jail during his murder trial. That trial ended with a hung jury on June 12, when a jury failed to return a unanimous verdict in the 2019 burglary-murder case.

On June 13, Anderson was transported back to Lincoln County and rebooked into the jail, not arrested again for another crime.

Anderson has not been released from jail for any reason since his bond was revoked and he was arrested on Oct. 25, 2023, according to Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing.

Anderson, 29, had been charged with capital murder in the July 21, 2019, shooting death of Zariah Antel Newton, while engaged in a felony. He was one of three men allegedly burglarizing a home on Mason Road in Brookhaven, when Newton and Javian Richardson returned home, and Newton was shot and killed.

Jatvious Berry and Adrian Smith were arrested and also charged in the case. Both accepted plea deals and are currently serving time for burglary and conspiracy.
