MDWFP commission will vote on final rules Wednesday

JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Commission will vote on final rules Wednesday at the headquarters in Jackson. The business session will start at 1 p.m.
Public commenters will speak following the opening prayer, approval of past meeting minutes and the June meeting agenda.
Todd Williams is set to speak on supplemental feeding and fall turkey season. Commissioners did not take action at the May meeting to reinstate the fall turkey season.
Danny Manseill will speak on deer hunting with dogs at Sunflower WMA. David Smith, Michael Setliff, Dale Trotter, Sam Bailey, Elizabeth A. Swoope, Robert Varner and Senator Mike Seymour will speak on rules relating to Wildlife Management Areas.
Jason Thompson, Director of Administrative Services, will give a license sale report. Commissioners will then rule on the final rules for WMAs, wild turkey draw hunts, small game bag limits and deer seasons and bag limits. One rule change for deer will be the addition of one more antlerless deer to the southeast deer management unit season bag limit and expanding the early velvet season to public land if public lands decide to participate.
Commissioners will vote on rules governing fisheries with state wide creel limits and regulations regarding state fishing lakes.
Chief of Law Enforcement Col. Jerry Carter will give a law enforcement update on citations and common offenses.
Executive Director Lynn Posey is set to give special recognition to chairman Bill Cossar whose term will expire at the end of the month. It is unknown if Gov. Tate Reeves will reappoint him to the commission. The election of new commission officers will follow.
