A law firm that has been in existence in Brookhaven for 70 years has been dissolved.

Attorneys Will Allen and Woody Breeland have announced that the firm of Allen, Allen, Breeland & Allen PPC dissolved effective May 31, 2024.

Emmette Allen started the law firm in 1954, and was joined by his son, Bob, in 1972. Breeland joined the Allens in 1994, and Bob’s son Will became part of the firm in 2001. 

The eldest Allen died in 1999, and Bob died in 2022. The youngest Allen attorney continued in his father’s footsteps in many ways — such as serving as board attorney for the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors, and currently for the Brookhaven School Board — but his own clientele has expanded.

“The firm has just changed over the years,” said Will Allen. “My civil rights practice has gotten so large I just needed help servicing my clients. Woody and I decided that this would be the best way.”

Breeland has joined the Boerner Law Firm at 117 South Railroad Ave., where he will continue in real estate and domestic work. Bill Boerner was once a partner with the Allens, and started his own firm with his son Brad.

“So Woody has gone back to working with guys he’s worked with before,” Allen said. “It’s been super easy.”

Allen has joined a different firm, but his physical address remains the same, at 214 Justice St. He is now a member of Butler Snow’s Constitutional and Civil Rights Litigation practice group.

“Two of my lawyers that were driving down daily from Jackson are now at the Ridgeland office. And my staff is staying. I’ve got three, plus two lawyers,” said Allen. “We’ve had a relationship with Butler Snow for years. My grandfather and father both worked with them and I know they would be excited.”

Allen thanked all of his clients, friends, family and the community.
