BROOKHAVEN — A severe thunderstorm with 50 mph winds and potential hail moved through Lincoln County Tuesday evening. Gusty winds broke branches off of trees on New Sight Drive as thick rain settled in near Brookhaven.

At 6:20 p.m., Entergy reports 537 customers are without power in Lincoln County and 2,938 customers in Pike County are without power. Southwest Electric reports 84 customers are without power in Lincoln County, 797 customers are without power in Franklin County and 390 customers without power in Copiah County. Magnolia Electric reports 361 customers in Lincoln County are without power and 3,900 customers in Pike County without power and 3,300 customers in Amite County without power.

Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency director Chris Reid said there were reports of downed trees in Brookhaven. A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for Lincoln County until 8 p.m. Be careful while driving as a few one vehicle wrecks on US84 and I-55 have been reported.

More severe storms could be on the way with hail and damaging wind gusts up to 60-70 mph. Flooding from high amounts of localized rainfall in a short period of time is also a concern. Ditches, creeks and low lying areas are starting to flood.
