Lincoln County Sheriff will see pay raise

BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County Board of Supervisors voted to grant Sheriff Steve Rushing a raise in his salary as authorized by the Mississippi Legislature. A bill passed in Mississippi’s 2024 legislative session to bump up sheriff salaries. 

Rushing was not at the regularly scheduled board meeting Monday. Lincoln County Administrator Daniel Calcote brought the item to the agenda and before the board. 

Calcote explained the salary bump would come in a staggered plan over the next few years. The bill passed by the legislature goes into effect on July 1. Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the raise.

Rushing currently receives a salary of $90,000 based on population with a $10,000 supplement that the Board of Supervisors approved in 2008. 

In a document concerning the pay raise, Rushing will receive an additional $5,000 on July 1, 2024 bringing his total salary to $105,000. 

On October 1, 2024, Rushing will receive an additional $5,000 bringing the total yearly salary to $110,000. On January 1, 2025, Rushing will receive an additional $5,000 bringing the yearly salary to $115,000. On October 1, 2025, Rushing will receive an additional $5,000 and the yearly salary would be $120,000. On January 1, 2026, Rushing would receive an additional $5,000 and the yearly salary would be $125,000.
