Potential rain this week could cool things off

BROOKHAVEN — A chance of showers and rain are in the forecast for Lincoln County over the next couple of days. Temperatures could cool off with the rain coming in.
National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts the high for Tuesday to reach 93 in Brookhaven. There is a 20 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. today.
A 30 percent chance of rain Wednesday could keep temperatures at a high of 87 and a low of 68. The showers could come after 1 p.m.
Thursday has a 40 percent chance of rain. Otherwise, it will be partly sunny with a high of 85 and a calm wind reaching 5 mph. Low temperatures Thursday could get down to 65.
Friday has a 40 percent chance of rain during the day and 30 percent chance at night. NWS Jackson forecasts the high Friday to be 86 with a low of 67.
The best chance of rain comes Saturday and Sunday with 60 percent and 50 percent chances of rain.
The forecasted cooler temperatures could be a relief for southwest Mississippi. Monday’s high reached 93 degrees with a heat index of 100 degrees. It was not the record high for May 27. NWS Jackson data indicates the record high temperature for May 27 was set in 1896 with a temperature of 97 degrees.
