BROOKHAVEN — Workers from Brookhaven Monument installed a new sign at the Christ Methodist Church Brookhaven Friday morning. The church is located at 732 Union Church Road in Brookhaven. 

Christ Methodist Church started by meeting at the Sullivan Ford Dealership on January 29. Becky Green, reporting secretary for the church, said they met at the dealership and had about 90 people gathering at first. 

“When we first moved here we were talking about putting something up. Dave and Lillian Pace stepped forward and donated the vinyl signs and they have donated this too,” Green said. “We thought it was important to get a sign up and let people know what is going on here.” 

Overnight, it seemed the parking lots of the church went from empty to full of cars and life. 

By February, the old Church of the Nazarene building came available. Allen Sparks, a member at the new church, said February 11 was the first service in the building. The new sign is a milestone in the move. 

“The new sign looks fantastic with the visual aspects. It lets people know we are here,” Sparks said. “It means everything to us being a member of this church. The vision we have for our church. It is a work in progress but the Lord has definitely blessed us and guided us.” 

Green said they plan to meet there for the foreseeable future. It is a great facility for what the young church needs coupled with education space. Christ Methodist Church Brookhaven has 163 members and averages 115 to 120 people every Sunday morning. 

It is an independent methodist church and has not joined any specific conventions or conferences of methodist churches. 

People might notice the bible verse Psalm 66:5 on the sign. It says “Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind.” Pastor Tyler Bridge explained the verse has a deeper meaning. 

“People are worshiping from home more than ever. It is good but I have always encouraged people to come in and see and come in person,” Bridge said. “You can watch church, hear good music and hear a good message but when you are there in person you are able to be in the spirit a lot better and be in the company of fellow believers and seekers. I want people to come and be present.” 

In person church attendance allows people to be spiritually fed, Bridge said. They can be reminded of how much God loves them no matter where they are in life. 

One mission for the church is to spread the gospel. In the bible belt, the gospel can be taken for granted.

“It is important to remind people that God loves us as much as he ever did and nothing can change that,” Bridge said. “When you are part of a good and thriving church it makes getting along in this world a lot easier.” 

Sparks echoed the invitations to attend Christ Methodist Church Brookhaven. 

“We invite anyone who wants to come. Share the experience with us,” he said. 

Ministry at Christ Methodist

Since the launch of the church, Christ Methodist Church Brookhaven has established ministries. They have a youth and children ministry and are involved in local ministry projects with Child Protective Services. 

Green said the month of May has highlighted missions. The church plans to collect donations for Operation Christmas Child and plans to help Berean Children’s Home. 

The church meets at 8:30 a.m. for worship on Sunday. Bridge is currently shared with Pleasant Grove Church in Lincoln County. Green said Sunday school follows the service. 

On Wednesday nights, the church gathers for a meal at 5pm. followed by activities and lessons at 5:45 p.m. 

Vacation Bible School will start June 10th until the 13th and will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Anyone interested in the vacation bible school can email the church at Christmethodistbrookhaven@gmail.com  

Green said she is most amazed by how everything has come together. 

“We stepped out on faith and a couple of weeks later we elected a board of stewards who have helped oversee things,” Green said. “The real remarkable thing is no one has denied taking on roles that were needed. They were all ready to jump in and do it.”
