Lineman working to restore power, more severe storms on the way

BROOKHAVEN — Linemen from Entergy, Southwest Electric and Magnolia Electric are making progress to restore power to customers. Severe storms and flooding threaten Friday night.
At one point last night, nearly 50 percent of Southwest’s customers in Lincoln County were without power. Linemen have the percantage of Lincoln County customers without power to 29.9 percent or 1,147 customers. Entergy is at 250 customers without power in Lincoln County. Magnolia Electric reports 102 customers are without power and crews restored power to 537 customers in Lincoln County.
According to NWS Jackson, gusts reached 30 mph around 1 a.m. Friday morning. It is possible wind gusts were stronger in localized areas as severe storms moved through the area. NWS recorded 0.71 inches of rainfall Thursday night and Friday morning. More rain could come today.
Lincoln County is now under a flood watch issued by the National Weather Service. Forecasts warn that 2-to-3 inches of rain is possible over a short period of time. Areas of flash flooding is likely and minor river flooding is possible. Drivers should remember to turn around and don’t drown when encountering flooded roadways.
Severe storms remain a threat today and into the night. Wind gusts of 60 mph could accompany the possible severe storms Friday along with quarter to golf ball sized hail. Tornadoes are possible.
