Teenage victims identified in Sunday interstate shooting

Two people shot and killed on Interstate 55 Mothers Day morning have been identified.
The bodies of the victims were found on the southbound side of I-55 in Hazlehurst near the Gallman exit Sunday morning. The interstate was temporarily closed, but reopened to traffic at 6:30 a.m.
Multiple bullet holes were reported in the windows of a car the individuals may have been traveling in, reports said.
Copiah County Sheriff Byron Swilley said the victims are 17-year-old Trenarius Dixon and 17-year-old La’Shayia Stewart, both students at Hazlehurst High School. Dixon was a senior just days away from graduating.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, was investigating the incident, according to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Bailey Martin.
No arrests have been made at this time.
