The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting a homicide investigation after two people were found dead on Interstate 55 in Copiah County Sunday morning.

The incident happened on the southbound side of I-55 near the Gallman exit at Hazlehurst. The southbound lanes were briefly closed, reopening around 6:30 a.m.

Multiple bullet holes were reported in the windows of a car the two individuals may have been in.

MBI was on the scene investigating with assistance from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, according to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Bailey Martin. Two people were found dead at the scene, Martin said, but their identities have not yet been released.
