BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County survived some hefty storms Thursday night. The brunt of the storms hit the Jackson Metropolitan Area hard leaving about 19,000 people without power as of this afternoon in Hinds and Rankin counties. 

No outages are reported by Magnolia Electric, Entergy or Southwest Electric in Lincoln County at this time. Thunderstorms dumped rain and hail while the wind howled. Flashes of lighting illuminated woods and fields across the County late last night. 

NWS Jackson reported 0.95 inches of rain fell over one hour during the storm. Wind speeds held strong at 16 mph sustained speeds while gusts peaked at 36 mph. 

Loyd Star, Wesson and Bogue Chitto residents reported hail, some stones reached the size of quarters. 

In the midst of the severe storm, Heucks Retreat Volunteer Fire Department battled a car fire on Cooperstown Road. Firemen were able to keep the fire contained to the car and protect a nearby home. The call came around midnight. 

Friday’s sunny bluebird skies are the first of a few days of nice weather. Sunday night is forecast to get stormy again. A 30 percent chance of rain and 50 percent chance of thunderstorms are in the forecast Sunday night. Monday has an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms.
