BROOKHAVEN — A throng of people gathered in the waiting room of Ole Brook Kids Clinic as rain poured down Friday afternoon. It was a day of celebration for the new pediatric urgent wellness clinic in Brookhaven.
Located at 301 C Highway US 51 South in Brookhaven, Ole Brook Kids serves children everyday of the week. Co-Owner Amber Martin estimates they have treated 1,000 patients in the first three months of opening.
Their mission statement states they understand illness and injuries don’t always happen between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will work to provide care outside of those hours. Martin said they are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday but close early on Wednesday at 4 p.m. On the weekend they are open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Wellness visits, sports physicals and vaccinations are offered by the clinic.
Martin partnered with Co-Owner Kayla Thurman to open the business in 2024. The ball started rolling on the project about a year ago.
“Here we are a year later and we have been open for three months. The turnout has been great. We have an amazing staff who have joined us,” Martin said. “We have devoted a lot to this. Our families have been a phenomenal support.”
She said Thurman had approached her with the idea to start a clinic. They worked together at Kings Daughters Medical Center previously. Faith guided them to take the step and start a business.
Community members gathered outside the office to cut the ribbon and celebrate with a small break in the clouds. After counting down from three, the pops of confetti cannons rained colorful pieces in celebration.
“It is a big achievement. We are excited to share with our families and the community. Thank you to everyone who has supported us, the dreams have come true,” Thurman said. “We have support from a lot of people who love us and believe in the vision with us.”
