BROOKHAVEN — Some major work has been done to the old Staffler Jewelers store on West Cherokee Street in downtown Brookhaven. For starters, the old iron gate is no longer on the building and instead has been replaced with a new store front.
Glass windows, a wooden desk and chair can be seen in the lobby of the building from the sidewalk. The windows reflect the cars parked along the street and make it hard to see what else is in the building.
According to brickwork and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, the old Staffler Jewelers building was built in 1872.
Records from the Lincoln County Tax Assessor’s Office, Tommy Franklin and Holly Franklin of Brookhaven own the property.
Sen. Jason Barrett plans to open his new law office at this location.
We are working on this developing story, check back for updates.
