BROOKHAVEN — Police Chief Kenny Collins told WLBT they are investigating a shooting following a domestic incident involving the victim and suspect.
Collins has not answered questions from The Daily Leader about the incident. WLBT reported a man returned to the scene of a dispute at the apartment where he shot his partner and then shot himself. Collins told the TV station that the suspect was still conscious and speaking when officers arrived back at the scene. Conditions of the suspect or victim are unknown at this time.
At the crime scene
Several officers walked around an Oakview Apartment building on Fred Walley Drive as residents stood outside their apartments. A man from the Mississippi Department of Corrections was also present Tuesday morning.
The crime scene was close to Union Street and Ingram Street and Mamie Martin Elementary School.
A man wearing a tan shirt, pants and a black bucket hat walked down the street and sang with a soulful voice, “I’m going to keep on praying. I got to pray. Pray everyday, oh Lord.”
Yellow placards were placed down on the street next to pieces of evidence as a detective walked around taking pictures with a camera. A sign on the exterior of the Oakview apartment building stated it was Apartment No. 2 in the complex.
There are reports that King’s Daughter Medical Center’s Emergency Room was on lockdown following the incident. The hospital has not confirmed those reports. KDMC’s Emergency Room is on the same side of the hospital as the helicopter landing pad used for medical transport.
This is a developing story.
