Bobcat seniors fall in state finals, tennis season wraps up

OXFORD — Bogue Chitto seniors Jax Leggett and Andrew Merrell finished second in the MHSAA Class I State Final for boys doubles Wednesday afternoon. The boys fought hard after a long week.
Head Coach Chase Wallace had an outstanding crew go to Oxford and compete over the last couple of days. Autumn Ramshur and Kyndra Quinn fell 6-3,6-3 in the girls doubles semi-finals. Leggett and Merrell fell 1-6, 1-6.
Bogue Chitto’s Gage Smith and Colten Kimble lost in the round of 16 in the boys doubles bracket 1-6, 1-6. Mixed doubles pair Joy Leggett and Russell Watts lost 1-6, 2-6 in the round of 16.
“They had a great season and a great run the last few days,” Wallace said.
The match was his last as the tennis program’s head coach. Wallace will continue serving Bogue Chitto as an assistant principal.
Loyd Star’s Ady Locke fell in the semi-finals round of girls singles 0-6, 1-6. Ethan Smith lost in the round of 16 of the boys singles bracket 0-6, 0-6.
Enterprise’s Kolby Sagely won 6-2, 6-0 in the round of 16. He lost in the quarterfinals round 4-6, 2-6. Allayna Barnett and Kailee Nuckles lost 1-6, 0-6 in the round of 16 in the girls doubles bracket.
West Lincoln’s Chloe Sterling lost in the round of 16 of the girls singles by 4-6, 4-6. Baylor Sills and Alexis Johnson advanced to the quarterfinal round. They won in the round of 16 6-0, 6-4 but lost 3-6, 3-6 in the quarterfinal round.
