Lincoln County pair named Lindy Callahan Scholar Athletes

BOGUE CHITTO — Lincoln County had a pair of student athletes named the Lindy Callahan Scholar Athlete according to a press release. The pair are part of 16 seniors selected across the state for the honor.
One boy and one girl from each of the MHSAA’s eight geographical districts — were chosen for their academic accomplishments as well as their participation in high school athletics and extracurricular activities. The recipients were chosen by a committee made up of MHSAA partners and school administrators.
Bogue Chitto’s Taylor Jackson was the girl recipient for district 8. Jackson is a senior softball player and was named one of the school’s nominations for the honor along with Easton Sartin in February.
Brookhaven’s Bryce Smith was the boy recipient for district 8. Smith played soccer and football at Ole brook.
Each of the 16 winners will receive a $1,500 college scholarship through the support of MHSAA partners.The Scholar-Athlete awards were launched in 1996 to honor Mr. Lindy Callahan, a long-time athletic director and coach at Gulfport High School and an eight-time Hall of Fame inductee.
