BROOKHAVEN — Bogue Chitto advanced in the MHSAA Class I Tennis Team Playoffs Friday with a 6-1 victory over Sebastopol. The win in the “Battle of the Bobcats,” advances Bogue Chitto to play St. Andrew’s in Ridgeland.
Senior Colten Kimble earned his No. 47 win and is now three wins away from reaching the 50 win milestone. He also trails Jax Leggett as the all time winningest Bobcat tennis player. Kimble has a chance to get to 50 with the team playoffs and individual state tournament.
Friday’s matches started at 12:30 and by 1:20 Bogue Chitto had clinched the playoff match. Head Coach Chase Wallace said Sebastapool forfeited one court and shook up his gameplan a little bit. His squad advanced to the second round.
“They deserve it. They have worked hard and came up here on their own. They deserve all of the credit,” Wallace said. “I’m proud of these guys and hope to see them continue to do well.”
The win means they will play at St. Andrew’s next. The private school has won five straight state titles and will be a tough challenge. Wallace said St. Andrew’s is beatable. They finished second in their district and lost to Pisgah 4-3, a team Bogue Chitto beat 4-3.
“The kids will be ready for it. I think we can be competing but we will see how it goes,” Wallace said. “We are excited and proud of them. I’m super proud of these kids.”
The winner of Bogue Chitto vs St. Andrews would advance to play Sacred HEart, another private school powerhouse in the MHSAA. Wallace said it is likely they will play Monday but has not gotten an official date and time for the second round tennis match.
