Forest Service closes boat ramp at Lake Okhissa

MEADVILLE — The Homochitto National Forest announced today that it is temporarily closing the south boat ramp at Okhissa Lake due to low water levels while the water control structure is being repaired. Recreation area access will remain open.
With the current lower water levels, boaters should expect not to have access to boat ramps. Access will continue for canoes, kayaks, and other small vessels that can be carried to the water’s edge for launch. Forest Service staff will continue to monitor the boat ramp for accessibility over the coming months. Boating speeds will continue to be limited to idle until the repairs are made, and the water level rises.
“We appreciate visitors and the community’s interest in Okhissa Lake. We hope to allow boat ramp access as repairs to the water control structure are complete and the lake returns to a safe level to launch,” Homochitto District Ranger Shaun Williamson said.
