Severe storms result in minor damage for Southwest Mississippi

Two tornado warnings were issued for portions of Lincoln County and Southwest Mississippi Monday evening and night. The National Weather Service in Jackson reports 0.64 inches of rain recorded in Pike County, with no official report for other portions of the area.
Lincoln County and Brookhaven suffered very little damage, as far as reports of such are concerned.
“All that’s been reported is one house in Loyd Star with minor roof damage, one shed toward Bogue Chitto destroyed, and a bunch of trees and power lines down,” said Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Chris Reid. “Nothing significant as far as we know right now.”
A large tree fell in a yard on Storm Avenue in Brookhaven onto power lines, knocking out electrical service to that neighborhood.
Though rumors circulated that severe damage was reported from storms in Copiah County, that apparently was not the case.
A representative of Copiah County Emergency Management said Tuesday morning that the only reports the office had received or observed were “a couple of trees down.”
“That’s it as far as we know now. We’re still looking,” he said.
Lincoln County residents are encouraged to report any damage to their property, trees blocking roadways, etc., to Reid’s office at 601-833-8561.
