Members of the Brookhaven High School Archaeology Club recently visited the club’s Copiah County dig site, registered with the Mississippi Department of Archives. The field trip, led by Benny and Gena Roberts, instructed the students how to properly conduct a dig and collect artifacts. Students used the Pythagorean Theorem to lay out a meter square unit, then learned how to use trowels and brushes to uncover artifacts. Among items found were some prehistoric debitage (chipped stone flakes) and pottery shards, as well as historic glass and square nails.
