Wildfire burning on Lincoln, Lawrence County line

CENTER — A fire is burning in Lawrence County on Trace Road in a pine plantation, Brookhaven-Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Reid said. The fire is right on the county line so Reid and Lincoln County volunteer fire departments were called out to assist in the fire.
Center Volunteer Fire Department is the closest Lawrence County Fire Department to the blaze.
Reid said residents of Brookhaven should be able to see the smoke from the fire as it burns. Unfortunately, the fire is in a pine plantation which has naturally adapted to burn easily. Mississippi Forestry Commission wildfire fighters are on their way to the scene, Reid said.
According to the Fire Information for Resource Management Services map provided by NASA, 166 acres are at immediate threat to this fire. The fire was first picked up at 11:11 a.m. according to FIRMS data. It is just west of Trace Road, north of Pennington McGuffee Road and south of US84 in Lawrence County.
Early Monday morning, Reid reminded people that the burn ban was still in effect and the National Weather Service in Jackson warned of fire danger increasing today. Please remember to heed all burn bans and be careful.
Check back for more updates on the fire as they become available.
