Lipsey Street resident: No more pond on my property

When Lipsey Street resident Randy Jones appeared before the aldermen in July, he told them the drainage problem on his property was “like an Olympic-sized swimming pool (draining) through a straw you get at the convenience store.”

Jones said the board was the fifth administration he had come before to ask for a remedy to water draining into his yard, becoming “a retention pond for the City.”

“This problem has been going on since we bought the property 21 years ago,” Jones’ wife, Maxine, told the board in July. “Something needs to be done, and we’re not going to wait any longer. The City needs to do something or we’re going to do something.”

Tuesday, Randy Jones said that time has come.

“We are going to stop the water from coming into our yard if we don’t get anything done,” Jones said. “I’ve got to protect my property.”

Jones also complained a fence the City had installed for an easement through his property has caused repeated issues for him due to a locked gate.

“Y’all offered to give me a key, but I can’t keep up with the keys I got. I don’t need another key,” Jones said. “I suggest you take it down, or buy the property.”

In July, Public Works Director Keith Lewis said he had spoken with Natchez Railway regarding a larger drainage pipe to be installed on the railroad property to help correct the issue. To date, the railway has not replaced the pipe.
