BROOKHAVEN — I Am She Boutique Owner Keiquanae Smith said her store is all about making a statement for yourself when she celebrated the grand opening Saturday. She said the boutique started in 2013 as an online store but has finally opened a store front at 714 Halbert Heights Road this week.
The boutique offers shoes, clothes and accessories at affordable prices from small to plus sizes, Smith said. The Union Church native is a photographer, social worker and mother of three boys Clarence Coleman III, Connor Coleman and Chosen Coleman.
“I took a leap of faith and opened this store on my own. It was something I have always wanted to do,” Smith said. “It is a dream and has finally become a reality. I enjoy doing this. I love shopping, dressing up and clothes. I want to bring more to Brookhaven.”
She watched her grandmother and grandfather run their one business as a kid and wanted to do the same one day. A Jackson State alumni, she earned a degree in social work and continues to balance both of her jobs.
Smith said she has a lot of help from her workers in balancing her responsibilities. Her trust in God helps in the process and she believes in God’s timing and speed. She said she enjoys Brookhaven.
“I love Brookhaven and have been here my whole life. It is a friendly environment,” Smith said. “I Am She” is a fashion statement. It’s about who you stand for, your personality, ambition and you are the girl. No one can stop you . You keep your head up and take care of your responsibilities.”
I Am She Boutique is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
