BROOKHAVEN — Exchange Club Fair is coming up and so is the annual watermelon weigh-in. The Lincoln County Master Gardener’s will host the watermelon weigh-in from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Exchange Club Fair on August 5.

Each year fourth graders in Lincoln County are given Congo watermelon seeds in late April to plant and nurture.  Any child bringing a Congo watermelon for weigh in will be given an armband by the Exchange Club for rides at no cost.

Additionally, there will be $100, $50, and $25 prizes for the 3 heaviest Congo watermelons.  The heaviest watermelon grown by a girl and grown by a boy from each school will receive a $25 gift card.

Last year, Georgia Ann Roberts, a student at Brookhaven Academy, set a record with a 59.8 pound winning watermelon.
