Storms rolling to downtown
Published 3:15 pm Thursday, May 11, 2023
Bolts of lighting and clanging thunder have arrived in Brookhaven. Swirling winds were a precursor to the storm as it rolls towards downtown. Lincoln County is currently under a severe thunderstorm warning until 4 p.m.
40 mph winds could be possible with this thunder storm warning and nickel size hail is also possible.
Weather conditions with severe storms and potential flash flooding are not the only danger residents should be concerned about. Tornadoes are possible for the area as the National Weather Service in Jackson issued a tornado watch around 1 p.m.
The tornado watch is in effect for Adams, Lincoln, Franklin, Jefferson, Claiborne, Lawerence and Copiah counties and many others across central and south Mississippi. It will expire at 8 p.m.
Due to the forecasted severe weather, Loyd Star’s first softball game at Puckett in the semi-final round of the MHSAA playoffs has been rescheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. Game 2 will be played at Loyd Star on Saturday weather permitting.
NWS Jackson reminds people to stay weather aware throughout the day and to have multiple ways to receive information. It could be the difference between life and death.
Three inches of rain could be possible for Brookhaven. There is still an 80 percent chance of rain tonight.
