OXFORD — It took one tiebreaker for Brookhaven High School to reach the State Finals. One tiebreaker made the difference in the MHSAA 5A Team State Championship as the Panthers lost to Lafayette County High School.
The Commodores won four courts to three to claim their fifth title in six years. It is the second time the Panthers have lost to Lafayette County in the state finals.
Ole Brook Tennis posted updates throughout the match on Facebook. They reported Benton Legg won the boys singles court for Brookhaven while Jeremiah Layton and Robert Adcock lost the boys doubles court. Caroline Kilpatrick and Lucy Allen won the girls doubles court for the Panthers. Cohen Leggett and Allie Grace McNeil won the mixed doubles court.
Brookhaven beat West Jones in a 4-3 thriller to win the south state title and reach the state finals after a first round bye in the MHSAA 5A team playoffs.
