BROOKHAVEN — Home court advantage might be at play when Brookhaven High School travels to Oxford for the MHSAA 5A Team Tennis Championship. North State champion Lafayette County advanced to the title match to play South State champion Ole Brook next Wednesday.
Lafayette defeated Saltillo 7-0 this week to advance to its fifth straight state title match. The Commodores and Panthers will play at FNC Tennis Center in Stone Park on Monday. It will be the first time the teams have met in the post-season since 2021 according to The Oxford Eagle.
Ole Brook fell 6-1 in the 2021 state championship match against Lafayette County. They will look for revenge at a tentative start time of 1 p.m. Wednesday. Brookhaven’s match will start at the conclusion of the 4A state championship.
Last Friday, Brookhaven defeated West Jones 4-3 in the South State Championship to punch their ticket to the title match. Lucy Allen and Caroline Kilpatrick won their doubles court in a tie-breaker to clinch a spot in the championship match.
