Cougar tennis players headed to state

VICKSBURG — Five tennis players from Brookhaven Academy punched their ticket to the MAIS individual state championships next week in Ridgeland at the South State Tournament Tuesday. Jacie Douglas, Levi Dale, Annaston Poole, Sawyze Poole and Taylor Douglas all kept their seasons alive.
Brookhaven Academy’s Mixed Doubles pair Douglas and Dale beat St. Joe in 3 sets in the first round but lost to Cathedral in the finals. The runner-up finish advances the duo to Ridgeland.
No.2 Girls Doubles pair Annaston Poole and Swayze Poole beat St. Al in 3 sets in the first round but lost in the third set in the finals to Cathedral. No. 2 Girls Singles player Douglas beat St. Joe in the first round but lost in a third set in the finals to Central Hinds.
Boys Doubles pair Nathan Poole and Cooper Strickland fell in the first round to St. Joseph as did Girls singles player Macy McDaniel. BA’s girls doubles pair Lillie Gates and Emma Gates fell to St. Aloysius in the first round and so did boys singles player J. Parker Watts.
Boys singles player Austin Tinsley fell in the first round to St. Aloysius as did boys doubles pair Wilson Calcote and John Pace.
