BROOKHAVEN — Kindergarten students at Mamie Martin searched for 2,000 easter eggs at Mamie Martin Elementary Monday afternoon. Each egg had a piece of candy inside.
Nearly 200 students raced across a playground to gather the eggs. The plastic orbs were scattered across the playground by Recreation Department members. Deacon Wallace, a senior at Bogue Chitto Attendance Center, was among the recreation department members helping facilitate the hunt.
His job with the department is normally to do maintenance on the baseball and softball fields or at the parks but Monday he put on a different uniform. Wallace transformed into the easter egg bunny and gave cheerful kids hugs as they arrived for the easter egg hunt.
The students chanted “easter bunny,” a few times and waved good bye when it was time for the easter bunny to leave. First and second grade students will do an easter egg hunt at the school on Tuesday and Wednesday.
