A law to help protect vulnerable adults has been passed by the Mississippi Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Tate Reeves.
Senate Bill 2652 will create the Vulnerable Person Abuse Registry. People who have been convicted to abuse, neglect or exploitation of a vulnerable person will be required to register with the VPAR or face additional penalties.
“It is a tool all Mississippians can use to care for their loved ones and a new tool for law enforcement to ensure justice for vulnerable adults,” said Attorney General Lynn Fitch. “This law shines a light on darkness and plays a critical role in protecting those we love.”
The law goes into effect July 1, 2023.
