BROOKHAVEN — Clear skies, blue skies and sunshine are typically associated with warm weather but the temperatures in Brookhaven continue to be frigid. Wind is the main concern bringing the windchill bellow five degrees.
Ice has melted in shallow water and bayous, creeks and rivers should be free of ice as they require longer periods of cold temps to freeze over. Power is mostly restored in Lincoln County with Entergy reporting just 20 customers without power down from 1,200 this morning and 500 at lunch time.
The long nights of winter are finally over. Each day we will gain a little bit of daylight following the winter Solstice Wednesday which could help warm Mississippi up. Tonight’s low is 19 degrees as clear skies allow heating loss to occur.
Brookhaven’s Warming Shelter on Beltline Road is open and will close Sunday at 10 a.m. if anyone is in need of warm shelter.
