BROOKHAVEN — Davis Wrecker had 600 pre-made plates in anticipation of people showing up around 11 a.m Wednesday. By 12 p.m., those plates were gone and volunteers at Davis Wrecker were busy serving a long line of people.
Jamison Powell said the Thanksgiving weekend always starts off with a meal at Davis Wrecker as he joined his dad Ken Powell for a meal. Owners Larry Davis and Nick Bates help put together the meal which started in 2004.
Corn, green beans, ham, turkey, bacon, sausage, dressing, baked beans, biscuits, potato salad and desserts filled styrofoam boxes. People carrying their plates smiled ear to ear with the joy of Thanksgiving.
Shoneta Harris hugged a friend and others did the same throughout the lunch. Davis said the fellowship people have in his auto-repair shop is what the meal is all about. He has a newspaper clipping covering the event in his office from a few years ago.
