BROOKHAVEN — Jackson’s National Weather Service office forecasts an elevated threat of heavy rain to continue tonight. According to the NWS, 2 inches and even higher amounts are likely locally.
Areas of flooding will continue to persist while some roads may continue to be closed or flooded. Minor to moderate river flooding is likely for the Homochitto and Pearl Rivers.
NWS reminds drivers to turn around and don’t drown when they encounter a flooded section of road. A section of road in Newton County was completely washed out today according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol Office in Meridian. Floodwaters can cover sections of road and if you can’t see the road through the water there is no guarantee it is there.
Heavy rain threats can continue until the next day as late as 7 p.m. Rainfall of two to three inches in less than three hours is possible tomorrow which adds to the potential of localized flash floods according to the NWS.
