Being named Educator of the Year in the Lincoln County School District is the honor of a lifetime, said Robin Greer, who teaches fourth grade writing, grammar, spelling and Mississippi Studies.
“Teaching was a spiritual calling for me, therefore my students are my inspiration and motivation,” she said. “Children are always eager to learn and experience new things. The joy and sense of accomplishment they feel after they have mastered a difficult task or learning standard never grows old for me. It is a blessing to know I was given the opportunity to be a small part of their academic journey.”
Greer earned her associate’s degree from Jones County Community College, her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and her master’s degree from William Carey University. She began her teaching career in 1983 in a small school in Perry County.
“My tenure at Enterprise Attendance Center began in 1999,” she said. “I taught first grade as a reduction teacher my first year at EAC, and transitioned to a third-grade self-contained classroom the following year. I remained at EAC until May of 2004.”
Greer returned to EAC in the fall of 2019 and now has eight years of teaching there under her belt. Her primary focus in English Language Arts is writing, which — of course — incorporates spelling and grammar.
“To be named Teacher of the Year for Enterprise Attendance Center is most humbling,” she said. “I accept this award on behalf of every teacher on our campus.”
Her hometown is Waynesboro and she’s lived in the Lincoln County area since the summer of 1993. She is married to Wayne Greer, and they have four children: Ashlie, Andrea, Ryan and Jacob. They also have five grandchildren: Macie, Benjamin, Cole, Kaleb and Jamie.
“The Lincoln County School District is a wonderful district that values and appreciates its educators,” she added. “Our superintendent, David Martin; assistant superintendent, Richelle Ratcliff; along with the Title One director, Robin Case, work tirelessly to ensure we teachers have the most up-to-date educational resources available to assist us in meeting the academic needs of our students.
“Under the leadership of our two administrators, Terry Brister and Charissa Burke, we all work together to build lifelong relationships with each other and our students. We aren’t just teachers and students; we are family. This type of atmosphere promotes positive self esteem, which translates into greater academic success.”
Greer’s plan is to return to her classroom in August and continue working with her “rockstar” teammates, Stephanie Foster and Heather Prisock. “Our school motto is ‘Enterprise will only be what we want it to be,’” she said. “Every person on our campus takes ownership of what that means. Beginning in kindergarten, students are consistently reminded of high expectations and becoming leaders through good example. It is both a blessing and a privilege to be a small part of a school that embodies this mindset.”
As for the summer, her plans include returning to her favorite national parks, discovering new favorite places, spending more time with her children and grandchildren, reading, and visiting antique and resale shops. “I so enjoy the beauty of the national parks, and collecting vintage books,” she said.
