State Troopers are investigating the crash of a tractor-trailer tanker truck that exited Interstate 55 into a creek Wednesday afternoon.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M Cpl. Craig James said the driver of the tanker truck apparently lost control of the vehicle and veered off the interstate into the median near mile marker 25 and landed in a creek.

Troopers arrived at the scene near the Lincoln County-Pike County line at approximately 4 p.m. Craig said the Holden, Louisiana company’s truck was traveling southbound when the incident occurred. The driver received minor injuries and was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation shut down the I-55 southbound left lane until the vehicle could be extracted. Crews completed the extraction at approximately 10 p.m.

Craig said the tanker, which normally carries gray water, was empty at the time of the incident.
