Georgia-Pacific Monticello recently donated $4,000 to support the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission’s Envirothon competition.
Funds are used for outreach, area and state competitions, and advancement of one team to the 2021 National Conservation Foundation Envirothon in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mississippi was represented nationally by Oxford High School.
“With sincere gratitude, we thank GP for its support of the Mississippi Envirothon program,” said event coordinator Chelsey Gazaway. “The Mississippi Envirothon is an exciting and challenging competition for Mississippi’s high school students, which is made possible because of Georgia-Pacific Monticello’s commitment to the protection of our environment and natural resources.”
The program is a hands-on natural resources competition designed to challenge high school students to explore the natural world around them. The event tests students in several environmental categories, including forestry, soils and wildlife.
