The Lincoln County Board of Supervisors took steps Monday to fix collection errors that resulted in the tax sale of two properties in 2020.
County Tax Collector/Assessor Blake Pickering told the board two property owners had paid taxes, but the payments were not recorded properly, resulting in the sale of the properties. When the errors were discovered, both the original owners and tax sale purchasers were notified. Pickering sought approval from the board to refund the money paid by each purchaser.
Supervisors approved refunding $983 to Odysseus Strategy for the purchase of Tax Sale Pin #20441, 1265 Pricedale Drive; and $34 to 4-S Company for Pin #7527 for a property owned by Georgia-Pacific.
The board also approved the reduction of assessed value on several properties in the county, contested by property owners and presented to the board by Pickering.
