Brookhaven Ward 3 Alderwoman Mary Wilson has decided not to seek reelection.
She made the announcement during the board’s regular meeting Tuesday.
Originally elected in 2004 to the board, Wilson was elected to replace the outgoing Ward 3 alderman Rev. Jerry Wilson — her husband — who resigned to become District 1 supervisor for Lincoln County.
“It has just come the time that I’m ready to let it go,” Wilson said.
“There are so many high points,” Wilson said. “We got the homes that are being built on South First Street, the Godbold Transportation Center, the spec building at Linbrook Business Park and the Jimmy Furlow Senior Citizen Center, and we’re getting ready to do a lot of paving. We have accomplished a good bit.”
Wilson said she has tried to do everything she could within the guidelines of the board to provide all the citizens of Ward 3 needed or requested and is satisfied with her work. She hopes whoever takes the seat next will work with the same attitude.
“I have enjoyed the city and working with everybody. I enjoy my ward and the people in my ward,” Wilson said. “My time has been good.”
